Are the Asan period pants safe?

Yes, the Asan period pants are absolutely safe to use!

The Asan period pants are made in accordance with global OEKO-TEX standards to ensure there are no harmful micro-plastics or chemicals. 

OEKO-TEX is a globally recognised system for testing and certifying textiles and leather products for harmful substances, ensuring consumer safety and promoting sustainable production.

What is different about the Asan period pants?

Unlike other synthetic options available, Asan’s period pants are made with 95% cotton and developed in line with global OEKO-TEX standards. They are designed with leak-proof and odour-free layers to ensure that they are comfortable, breathable and safe for your body and the planet.

What are they made from?

The Asan period pants body is made from 95% cotton and the gusset is made from four leak-proof and odour-proof absorbent layers.

Is they available in multiple colours?

The Asan period pants are available in black to be stain-free.

The dark colour naturally hides stains, keeping your period pants looking fresh and lasting longer.

Plus, black pairs beautifully with anything in your wardrobe, making it your go-to for comfort, practicality, and peace of mind during your period.

What style are the Asan period pants?

We've developed the Asan period pants in two different styles:

Light/medium flow: Hipster style for a breezy fit to feel just like regular underwear.

Heavy flow: High-waist style for maximum coverage, protection and comfort.

Are they eco-friendly?

Yes. The Asan period pants are made with 95% cotton, which is much better for the environment compared to synthetic options available.

They can be washed and reused for 2-3 years depending on the care. This makes them a very eco-friendly option compared to single-use pads and tampons - one pair replaces around 500 pads!

Sizing

How many sizes does Asan offer?

The Asan period pants come in two sizes: light/medium flow and heavy flow. Your size depends on how often you tend to change tampons or pads on the heaviest days of your period.

  • Light/medium period pants: For those who change pads/tampons every 6+ hours.
  • Heavy flow period pants: For those who change pads/tampons every 2-6 hours.
What if my flow varies throughout my period?

It is normal for menstrual flow to vary throughout your period. We advise choosing your size based on what you would require for the heaviest day of your period.

For example, if you have heavy flow for the first two days followed by light flow, we advise selecting the heavy flow period pants.

We’d recommend trying both the light-medium and heavy styles, which are perfect for different days throughout your cycle. 

How much flow do they hold?

The Light/medium flow holds up to 20ml and the Heavy flow holds up to 35ml.

Usage

Can I start using the period pants before I am on my period?

Yes, you can use your period pants ahead of getting your period if you are expecting it. This also minimises the stress of having to rush to find tampons or pads once you experience a stain.

How long can I wear my period pants for?

You can wear them for up to 8-12 hours depending on your flow.

Make sure to change them within 12 hours or if they start feeling damp.

Can I use period pants for exercise?

Yes, absolutely! You can comfortably exercise, dance and play sports while wearing them.

Can I sleep wearing these period pants?

Yes, one of the many benefits of the period pants are that you can have an undisturbed night’s sleep while wearing it.

The gusset is designed to provide full coverage for your period so you won’t leak even while you move around in your sleep.

Can I use the period pants on their own or do I need back-up protection?

You can absolutely wear them alone. You don’t need another period product as the Asan period pants are super absorbent.

If you are a cup user, the Light/medium flow pants are a great alternative option to liners for backup to your cup and that extra peace of mind!

Can I use period pants for spotting?

Yes absolutely! The period pants are a great option to manage spotting.

Can I use period pants for incontinence or bladder leaks?

Yes definitely! The Asan period pants are a comfortable and reliable solution for incontinence or bladder leaks.

Cleaning and care

How do I keep my period pants clean?

To clean your period pants, first rinse them in cold water.

Then hand wash or place them in a cold machine wash. Hang to dry.

Can I use regular detergent to wash my period pants?

Yes, you can use regular fabric washing detergent on your period pants. 

We recommend using the Asan OneDrop cleanser as it is formulated to be gentle and safe. Just squeeze a few drops of it into the gusset, scrub and rinse.

How often should I replace my period pants?

The Asan period pants are designed to last 2-3 years if maintained well.

You should replace your period pants if there is any damage to the gusset or fabric.

Your health

Can I use period pants if I have a yeast or other infection? 

We do not advise using your period pants while you have a vaginal infection. Please wait for your infection to clear up.

However, it is worth noting that because sanitary pads are associated with rashes and itching, the Asan period pants are a much better long-term option to avoid vaginal infections.

Can I share my period pants?

We don’t advise sharing your period pants as they are for personal use.

Can I use the pants for postpartum bleeding?

Yes absolutely!

Postpartum bleeding refers to the heavy bleeding that is experienced after giving birth. The heavy flow Asan period pants are a fantastic option to manage postpartum.

Will they smell? Will I smell while using it?

No, not at all! The Asan period pants are designed with an odour-free layer to absorb any odour generated by your period. So unlike disposable pads, you won’t be able to smell anything.
